TEMPRANILLO FROM A UNIQUE VINEYARD
After alcoholic fermentation in French oak vats, malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels. Ageing in lightly toasted French oak barrels complements the fruity characteristics of the Tempranillo grape. Finally, prolonged ageing in the bottle is essential to achieve its lively, elegant and noble tannins. This is an intense, rich, flavourful and distinctive wine with all the idiosyncrasies of the vineyards in the upper Sonsierra region. A very limited and exquisite production of this Pago red wine, made from Tempranillo grapes.
VINEYARD
Viña Garugele is a unique vineyard that we work in the traditional way, using only organic fertiliser and working with animal traction and by hand. Planted in the 1940s with the Tempranillo variety, it is the oldest plot of all those owned by Bodega CM de Matarromera in the D.O.Ca. Rioja. The plot is located on soil that is poor in organic matter and has a loamy texture. Production on this plot is low and is characterised by small bunches and very concentrated grapes that are rich in phenolic compounds.
In this vineyard, the grapes are harvested manually into boxes, with an initial selection prior to a double selection (of bunches and berries). Fermentation takes place with native yeasts to respect the typical characteristics of the grape and its mountain terroir.

Viña Garugele
Garu is a wine that hides some of the best-kept secrets of the DOCa Rioja. It is greatly influenced by its terroir, by an endless landscape and Tempranillo grapes from our vineyards in Labastida, near Monte Garu, from which it takes its name.
This is a wine with great aromatic expression, lots of minerality and structure, produced by Bodega CM de Matarromera.
