CM Viña Garugele - VINOS DE FINCA
Bodega Carlos Moro
Qualified Designation of origin Rioja
Viña Garugele is a hamlet red wine of Tempranillo grapes. It is Bodega Carlos Moro's most special wine, from the Rioja DOCa. It is grown in the vineyard that bears its name, a goblet-trained vineyard planted in 1940, located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, one of the best areas in La Rioja, with an altitude of over 600 m above sea level and grapes personally selected by Carlos Moro to produce an excellent and unique Rioja wine.
San Vicente de la Sonsierra is one of the most important and highly acclaimed towns in the DOCa Rioja. It is located to the north of La Rioja and borders with Álava along the Sierra Cantabria mountain range. Its soils and distinctive climate are largely responsible for the quality of its wines.
Viña Garugele is a Singular Vineyard grown following traditional methods: applying exclusively an organic fertiliser and carrying out work through animal traction and by hand. The vineyard is located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria mountain range.
Due to its age, location, soil conditions and harvesting method, this plot was one of the first vineyards to be recognised by the Ministry of Agriculture as a Singular Vineyard.
At this vineyard, harvesting is carried out manually, using crates, with a first selection followed by a subsequent double selection, by cluster and then grape by grape. Fermentation is carried out using autochthonous yeasts in order to respect its typicality and mountain terroir. After alcoholic fermentation in French oak tanks, malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels.
Maturation is carried out in French oak barrels (100%) with soft toasted notes, which match the fruity properties of the Tempranillo grape. Finally, a long maturation in the bottle is essential to round the elegant, powerful and noble tannins this wine has.
It is a properly thought-out winemaking process aimed at preserving and highlighting the vineyard's differential properties. This wine is the result of a tremendous effort to bring the extraordinary grapes that grow in this unique vineyard to fruition.
Maturation is always carried out in new French oak barrels (100%) with soft toasted notes, which match the fruity properties of the Tempranillo grape. Finally, a long maturation in the bottle is essential to round the elegant, powerful and noble tannins this wine has and to establish its aromas and flavours.
The wine, made using these unique grapes, has a bright and intense colour, with aromas of fine dark fruits and remarkable siliceous minerality from the Garugele terroir. On the palate, tannins are delicate, fresh and long standing. Elegance and personality with Atlantic reminiscences.
The properties of the terroir in this Tempranillo mountain region are perfectly expressed in its exclusive wine: fine dark fruity notes, siliceous notes from the pebbles in the soil, freshness resulting from its orientation to the north, fineness and concentration of a mature vineyard, enhanced by a measured maturation in low-toast barrels, so as not to alter its authenticity and for the wine to showcase its origins.
This wine, so closely linked to the land, suits stews and game roasts such as deer or wild boar perfectly, but also cheese and Iberian cured meats. Essential for roast lechal lamb.
Intense, rich, tasty, personal plus all the idiosyncrasy of the vineyards from the high lands of the Sonsierra, with a very low but exquisite production.
